Add text

hello

A caption, a name, or a heading can sit on the photo as its own layer, so you can move it, restyle it, and change the words later. In Photasium that happens in the tab: the file never goes to a server.

## Type on a layer

Text in Photasium is a layer, the same kind of object as a photo you open. You can hide it, lock it, or drag it without flattening the picture underneath.

Brush and fill paint pixels on a raster layer, and a text layer keeps the actual words so you can edit them later. Rasterize from the layer menu when you need the letters as pixels.

## Captions, labels, and titles

A story or a post often needs a word on the picture, and a camera roll shot has none until you type it. Colour, size, and a stroke sit in the options bar once the layer is selected.

Script fonts such as Great Vibes sit in the same list as Inter and Impact, so a caption and a heading use the same Text tool.

A shop listing can carry the product name on the photo so the file is ready to upload. Weight and italic are on the same bar as colour, so a caption can sit over a busy background if you add a stroke.

A screenshot of an interface is easier to follow with a label on the button or the error. Align left, center, or right from the options bar.

A print or a card can take a heading without flattening the photo under it. Hide the [type layer](https://photasium.com/guides/how-to-use-layers.md) if you want a version with no words, then show it again for the titled file.

## Adding text in Photasium

1. **Open a photo.** Open the [editor](https://photasium.com/editor), then File → Open, or drop an image on the canvas.

2. **Choose Text.** Click Text in the toolbar, or press X.

3. **Click the canvas.** A new layer named Text appears with the word Text, and the field is already open for typing.

4. **Type and style.** Replace the placeholder, then click off the field to commit. Font, size (6 to 512), weight, italic, colour, align, and stroke live in the options bar.

5. **Place it.** Select (V) moves the layer. Transform from the layer menu, or press T, scales and rotates it.

Double-click the type, or press Enter with the layer selected, to edit the words again. Rasterize from the layer menu if you need to [paint or erase](https://photasium.com/guides/how-to-paint-and-erase-on-a-photo.md) the letters. Brush and eraser will ask you to rasterize first, because those tools paint pixels.

## Type that stays a layer

The words stay a layer until you rasterize them, nothing was uploaded, and you can open the type again later. If the line is in the wrong place, Select moves it, and undo restores the previous edit.

Download PNG, JPEG, or WebP if you need a file to send. Come back later and the document is still listed under the editor, until this browser’s storage is cleared. Add text sits with the other [photo editing tools](https://photasium.com/#text): [crop](https://photasium.com/guides/how-to-crop-a-photo.md) to a square, type the caption, export a listing.
