# How to Heal and Clone in Photasium

> Heal a spot or clone pixels in the browser without uploading or creating an account. Open Heal in Photasium, paint, or Option-click a source.

Heal and clone

A spot, a hair, or a repeated patch of texture can be covered with pixels from the photo. In Photasium that happens in the tab: the file never goes to a server.

## Texture from the photo

Spot heal paints over a mark, then fills that stroke with texture from nearby pixels when you let go. The patch blends into the colour around it.

Clone stamp copies pixels from a place you choose. Option-click sets the source, then the stroke paints that texture. [Brush](https://photasium.com/guides/how-to-paint-and-erase-on-a-photo.md) paints the foreground colour from the colour wells.

## A spot on a portrait

A phone shot can pick up a skin spot, a hair, or a sensor speck. Spot heal covers it with texture from the pixels around the mark.

Duplicate the layer first if you want the original pixels still underneath. [Duplicate the layer](https://photasium.com/guides/how-to-use-layers.md) keeps that copy in the stack.

A listing shot often has a crumb, a scuff, or a speck on the table. Switch to Clone stamp, Option-click a clean patch of the same surface, then paint over the speck.

A name or a number on a screenshot can be covered by cloning the pixels beside it. Option-click a matching stretch of the interface, then paint across the text.

Dust and a hair on a scan show up at print size. A small, hard Spot heal takes them off. Keep the stroke tight so the patch stays on the mark.

## Healing and cloning in Photasium

1. **Open a photo.** Open the [editor](https://photasium.com/editor), then File → Open, or drop an image on the canvas. Select a raster layer.

2. **Choose Heal.** Click Heal in the toolbar, or press J. Spot heal and Clone stamp are in the options bar.

3. **Set the stroke.** Size (1 to 500), hardness, and opacity are in the options bar. Press [ or ] to change size while you work.

4. **Spot heal.** Drag over the mark. When you let go, the stroke is patched with nearby texture. A smaller size stays closer to the mark.

5. **Clone stamp.** Switch to Clone stamp. Option-click the pixels you want to copy. A marker shows the source. Drag to paint the copy, and the source stays the same distance from the brush. Option-click again to pick a new source. If you paint before setting one, Photasium asks you to Option-click first.

If a selection is active, the stroke stays inside it. Heal and clone need a raster layer. A text layer asks you to rasterize first. A locked layer will not accept the stroke. Undo restores the layer to how it looked before the stroke.

## A patch on the layer

The patch sits on the raster layer, nothing was uploaded, and undo restores the previous stroke. If the texture looks wrong, undo and paint a smaller spot, or Option-click a source closer to the mark.

Download PNG, JPEG, or WebP if you need a file to send. Come back later and the document is still listed under the editor, until this browser’s storage is cleared. Heal and clone sit with the other [photo editing tools](https://photasium.com/#heal): [Brush](https://photasium.com/guides/how-to-paint-and-erase-on-a-photo.md) a colour, [Duplicate the layer](https://photasium.com/guides/how-to-use-layers.md) a duplicate, export a listing.
